The OpenOffice.org ODF Toolkit Project

Lead: Dieter Loeschky
Co-Leads: Lars Behrmann, Svante Schubert

On November, the 5th, 2008, an exciting new project that has been announced: odftoolkit.org.

The objective of this new project is to provide a home for libraries and tools that ease the development of applications that support ODF, where applications means applications in general, not just office productivity applications like OpenOffice.org. That is, the scope scope of odftoolkit.org goes far beyond the development of a particular office productive suite like OpenOffice.org (or KOffice), or a piece of it.

The projects we are hosting in this project (the OpenOffice.org ODF Toolkit project), namely ODFDOM, AODL, the ODF Validator and two ODF XSLT tools, all perfectly match into the broader scope of odftoolkit.org. They have no relation to OpenOffice.org or its code base, and therefore seem to fit better into the scope of odftoolkit.org than into OpenOffice.org. It therefore seems to be more than reasonable to us to continue the development of these projects at odftoolkit.org. We have already provided the basis for this by contributing the project's source code to odftoolkit.org. They became the initial contribution of odftoolkit.org. That's something this project and its members can be proud of.

The infrastructure of odftoolkit.org is up and running, so development of the projects may continue there immediately.

Sign up today! We are looking forward for continuing the collaboration on ODFDOM, AODL and the other small ODF Toolkit projects at odftoolkit.org.
